In 1967, a young Swedish graduate of Beckmans College Of Design in Stockholm created and sold her first work. That textile design called 'Moln' (Clouds) from the mind of Gunila Axén was set to become a true classic of Scandinavian design.
This creation acted as a launch pad for Gunila to have an extremely successful all-round career as a designer including becoming a Professor at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm but remains to this day one of her best known works.
Growing up in Scandinavia, it was almost impossible to not know the clouds print and form an attachment to it! Striking in its beauty, it shows just how the best designs can often be based on the most simple of concepts.
As a design that has never disappeared from the consciousness in the Nordic region, we were delighted to discover that a range of children's products were available using Gunila's pattern. The baby blankets, kids bedding and panel curtains are one way to add some gorgeous fluffy clouds to everyday life without having to block out the sun!
We expect Clouds by Gunila Axén to be around for many more years to come which is great news for everyone that loves Scandinavian design.
