Too often the market for baby clothes suffers from being clearly gender divided... pink for the girls and blue for the boys. Whilst there is clearly a place for this, it can be good to break out of this mould and have clothes that are suitable for all. This is clearly the statement of intent behind the designs produced by the Swedish label Plastisock.
Plastisock was launched in 2005 when Emily Willman and Malin Jarbo got fed up of simply complaining about this gender divide and decided to do something about it. It was their vision that kids can like both dinosaurs and dolls, and look smashing in a tutu with a cowboy hat. It doesn't have to be one way or the other. Too many of the baby stores in Sweden conformed to the same stereotypes we see here and so they set out to change that and make clothes with colours and patterns that would work both for boys and girls.
Reflecting on the designs they have since produced, it's plain to see that they have managed to achieve collections that feature strong colours and lively patterns that not only look great but also act as a catalyst to encourage a child's natural curiosity. Moreover, these clothes looks great on both boys and girls which has certainly presented a problem for those traditionally divided stores that want to stock their garments.
The products are certainly something a little bit special and after examining them and seeing how they were constructed to the highest specifications we were unable to resist making them available in the UK. They've proved to be hugely popular in Scandinavia and we're sure they will receive a similar response here.
